5 Summer Boots for the Everyday Farm Girl

Have you ever struggled to find the perfect shoe / dress / [insert something here]?? Well, that’s exactly where I’ve been the past couple of weeks as I’ve searched for the perfect summer farm girl boots.

As some of y’all know, our little family is moving to a 60-acre farm in a few months – woot! Seriously can’t wait. I have some great insulated, waterproof boots that I’ve been wearing to work on the farm all winter, but they obviously aren’t going to work for summertime…hello, sweaty feet!

My Summer Boot Requirements

They Need to be Cute

If I’m going to wear work boots, they definitely should be cute, right?! Well, I think so anyway. If I’m going to be wearing them everyday, I want to like the way that they look and feel good in them.

Waterproof, Please!

It’s super important that they are waterproof so I’m not constantly getting wet feet or needing to dry them out. Our farm actually drains really well, but the ground is still going to be wet at times.

Good for Hot Weather

I don’t want to feel constrained or like my feet are pruning when the 90 degree Virginia days set in later in the summer.

Versatile

I’ll be using these boots so work in the chicken coop, mow the fields, clear trees, plant gardens, and chase tiny humans around the farm. I need an all-in-one solution so I can easily do all of these things in one pair of boots.

Instagram Call for Help

I sent out an SOS call on Instagram stories a while back, and got a few suggestions and bits of feedback.

The majority of folks basically said, “Umm can you pleaseee share what you find?!”

While Sloggers are cute, they really aren’t my style. If you know me, you know I live in a wardrobe of black, cream, grey, navy, and more black. I’ll occasionally throw in a pop of color if I’m feeling especially daring. As for the fireman boots, well, I don’t have access to those and don’t think they’d be my cup of tea either. This brings me to my last group, who like me is still looking for the perfect summer farm boot. So, I went on a mission.

5 Summer Farm Boot Options

Option 1: Sperry Saltwater Rubber Dip

PAIR

Why I like them:

  • They’re a more refined version of the L.L. Bean duck boots
  • The rubber comes up higher on the boot, providing more protection against water getting inside
  • They’re easy to slip on and go

Why I don’t love them:

  • The rubber won’t be super breathable
  • They may not hold up to life on the farm

Option 2: SKECHERS Pond – Staying Dry

PAIR

Why I like them:

  • The price point is great at under $50!
  • They’re cozy and easy to pull on and go
  • They’re waterproof, and cute for summer and winter

Why I don’t love them: (Same reasons as above)

  • The rubber won’t be super breathable
  • They may not hold up to life on the farm

Option 3: Hunter Original Short

PAIR

I’ve always wanted a classic pair of Hunter boots, so I thought I’d check them out and see if they’d be a match for what I need on the farm.

Why I like them:

  • Hunter boots are iconic, and I think they’re super cute
  • They’re waterproof and come up higher without being super tall boots
  • They’ll hold up against life on the farm

Why I don’t love them:

  • They’re expensive for boots that are mostly rubber
  • The rubber won’t be super breathable
  • They could be uncomfortable to run around in on the farm and feel constricting or heavy

Option 4: Wythburn Waterproof Boot

Wythburn Waterproof Boot

Why I like them:

  • They’re waterproof, breathable full-grain leather
  • They come up higher, but are not insulated and won’t make my feet die in the summer
  • They’re stylish while also being functional
  • They are quality and will last

Why I don’t love them:

  • The fact that they come up higher could make my feet and legs hot on summer days
  • The laces will likely get really annoying when I’m trying to run out of the house quickly
  • They’re at a higher price point at almost $230

Option 5: Keswick Waterproof Boot

Keswick Waterproof Boot

Why I like them:

  • Waterproof boots made out of quality leather that will last for more than one season
  • They’re shorter, and will keep me cooler in the summertime
  • They’re easy to slip on and don’t involve complicated ties
  • They’re stylish enough to wear out and about without looking like a bumpkin

Why I don’t love them:

  • They’re at a higher price point at almost $160
  • They won’t protect my shins and calves against ticks and poison plants when I’m wearing shorts

The Verdict – The Keswick Waterproof Boot!

This boot speaks to me – it’s waterproof, breathable, easy to slide on, and I can wear them at the farm or to Target. They are pricy… One thing I’ve learned over the years as a bargain shopper is that there are some things that are worth paying more for to get quality that will last you years instead of just for a season. This is one of those purchases, and I’ll end up saving money over the long run by not buying a lower quality pair of boots.

I’m ordering them now, and will report back once I’ve tried them out and can give y’all a full review! Stay tuned!
